Hi, My name is Emily Shearing.
I am a writer/photographer/blogger/romantic.
Originally from Rochester, N.Y., I currently call Los Angeles home, where I am freelancing as a writer and photographer. I recently completed a master’s degree in magazine, newspaper and online journalism and (almost) finished a second master’s in photography, both from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. I hope to share my perspective of this beautiful world through my photographs and words.
In 1996, I got my first hint I was in love with photography (although I didn’t quite know it yet). I was 11. I slipped and fell on a rock beneath a frozen waterfall attempting to get the best angle with my disposable camera (remember those?). When my dad developed the roll of film, he didn’t believe I took the photo. Fast forward to 2009, when I got my DSLR camera. I had no idea what I was doing and taught myself through trial and error. But in the past year, since starting grad school, my love of photography has flourished. Each click of the shutter makes me smile. There is no other feeling in the world quite like capturing the perfect moment. In November, I began a 365 Project, documenting a year of my life by taking a photograph every day. It has completely changed me.
My hope is to take beautiful photographs that make people think and feel. And travel. A lot.
And if you ever need advice on running a marathon, becoming a vegan or surviving a quarter-life crisis, I’m your girl.
I’m available for freelance photography and writing. Let’s talk.
