Syracuse, N.Y. It may not have the hustle and bustle of New York City or the architecture of Chicago, but it sure has its charm. In the year I’ve lived here, I’ve grown to love this modest city. Downtown is filled with interesting buildings and abandoned warehouses and the outskirts are beautiful rolling countryside views with lush parks and shimmering lakes.
Inspired by a project happening in my hometown of Rochester, N.Y. (see the project here), Ted Rysz and I have decided to start our own: Discover Syracuse. Our hope is to convey the beauty of the Central New York through our photos and give back to the place that’s given so much to us. But the project has a twist. All of the images will be edited on our iPhones and posted on instagram. Ted and I will shoot all of the photos on our Canon 5D Mark II and 60D. The photos will be tagged with the #DiscoverSyracuse hashtag and posted on our instagram accounts (emilyshearing and tedrysz3), and also on our snazzy new Tumblr.
If you have suggestions for locations to shoot in Syracuse, we’d love to include them. Let us know via Twitter, @emilyshearing or @tedrysz3.
